GESSO - the Art of Street Painting’ is a documentary about the origins, diversity, spirit, appeal and growing popularity worldwide of modern day Street Painting. This ‘road movie’ will take you to different countries and cultures, and tells the story of street painting through the eyes and hands of seven artists, coming from very different social and artistic backgrounds, but united by their passion for pavement art.
The film portrays beauty and hardship, individual inspiration, drive and perseverance. It's a truly inspiring behind the scenes look into the colorful life of the modern day pavement art scene worldwide.
What drives these people to create temporary art that will vanish after the first rain? And what draws them to this art form? In intimate portraits we explore their dreams, get an insight in their day-to-day lives and reveal the rarely seen beauty of these artworks being made.
The artists in the film range from traditional 'Madonnari', who for hundreds of years wander the urban landscape for money, to one of the best-known street painters Edgar Mueller, who makes large 3D paintings. Kurt Wenner, the inventor of 3D pavement art, takes us back to the time he revolutionized the art form in Rome.
The documentary is a tribute to the very essence of street creativity, honoring pavement artists all over the world.
